Hogging the Empty Freeway

On the way back from work today, a car entered the freeway a half mile or so in front of me. He then proceeded (on the almost empty freeway) to hop over three lanes until he was directly in front of me – and this with my quickly approaching from behind him. He then sat in the lane while I drove around him, like it was a perfectly normal thing to deliberately enter the only occupied lane and deliberately drive slower than the car already in it.

Mall Madness

With Christmas approaching, the entrances to the mall around the 106th S exit become rather hectic. Today was no exception. Some cars decided that waiting in line wasn’t good enough for them, attempting to merge late and essentially cut the line. Some pass the light on State Street and then flip around a few hundred yards thereafter.
This video has both.

Lane Chane Problems

While driving in downtown SLC today, the truck in front of me nearly merged into the car next to him when changing lanes. I believe his blinker/taillight was out on that side, which certainly didn’t help – he may have been signaling, but there was no way for anyone else to tell.

Two Left Turns

In the long line of cars waiting on 13th East at the south end of the valley, one paused to let the waiting cars turn. Both decided to go at once and very nearly collided.

As a sidenote, I’m not sure why I suddenly ran across three video-worthy events after a few weeks of nothing, but that’s how it goes sometimes.

Very Very Orange

At the intersection of State Street and 106th South, a car made a left turn long after the light had turned red – even with the few second grace period, he was nearly in the middle of the intersection when cars started moving the other way.

Lane Merge Close Call

Right before the exit from I-215 south to I-80, a guy in a truck merged to the right lane apparently without checking for cars in the right lane. He noticed too late that there was a car there, and so started a back-and-forth as he decided which lane to stay in.

Close Left

At the intersection of 94th S and 7th E, an SUV narrowly missed being hit after not having enough room to turn.

Left Turn Slipup

The car in front of me went to follow the next car in turning left. It misjudged the gap and had to avert its course to avoid being hit by the oncoming car.

Aggressive Merging

Thanks to Duncan for the submission!

“I see this stunt happen quite a lot during my short commute. It doesn’t always happen to me but I see it being done to many others at this merge. It typically happens more on my way home that on my way to work. I was travelling North on I-215 heading home. The traffic was quite light, as it was about 6:30pm. I-80 merges with I-215 before the 7th north exit. I noticed this SUV approaching from the I-80 lane but didn’t realize he HAD to get in front of me. there was no -one for quite some distance behind me and when I realized he was unhappy with having to slow down to 65MPH and already alongside me I had no where to move over to get out of his way.”

Who’s lane is it anyway?

We have another submission from Duncan!

He reports:
“It’s not too easy to see but she was not looking forward when I had already stopped and she was in the lane, I was in two minds about reversing to get out of the way. Not an easy junction to pull that stunt and I believe there is a NO LEFT turn sign in that filling station, but I could be wrong.

This camera is a curse.”
