Wreck on 106th
Driving up 106th S by the Trax line, I came upon the scene of a recent accident. Cars involved were only just barely pulling off to the side of the road, and sirens were sounding in the distance (there is a fire station about a half mile away on 7th E).
Apparently, the black truck with a trailer had been turning left and been hit head-on by a black car (visible through the fence in the yard of the corner house around 0:23).
The whole front end of the black car was crumpled in, and apparently the impact had sent it flying through the chain-link fence into the front yard of the house. On the truck, its front driver-side axle was crushed in, with the tire almost horizontal.
Bus Through Red Light
I was sitting at a stoplight when it turned green. A second or two after (just as cars on both directions started moving through the intersection), a bus came barreling through the intersection. Apparently the driver decided that the light was just a ‘little’ yellow, and once it turned red it was too late to stop. Had it been another second or two later, it would been a rather large wreck
Drifting
The car in front of me was clearly looking for a certain house or street to turn into, and as a result, drifted back and forth rather severely.
Mustang Exit
While waiting for my exit behind a large semi, a Mustang nearly missed his exit. He’d been driving next to me for some time (I must say, I was admiring the car quite a bit), and then suddenly noticed his exit was passing. He immediately hopped over through my lane to the exit, long after the actual exit lane had passed. Had he been a few moments later, it could’ve been rather messy.
Close Merge
Near the I-215/I-15 interchange, the far-right lanes merge. This causes problems occasionally, when people don’t notice or merge over in time. Today that nearly caused a chain reaction crash.
The truck pulling the trailer noticed at the last moment that the lanes changed, flipped his blinker on, and started moving over. The startled chevy next to him jerked to the side; nearly colliding with the el camino.
Crazy Taxi
While driving today, I noticed a cab driver who seemed to have some difficulty staying inside the lines. The car you are looking for cuts in from the right across a few lanes, and then stays (more or less) in one of the left lanes. During the course of the minute or so that I was behind him, he drifted back and forth quite a bit.
Traffic Tango
On the weekend, there are many cars trying to turn off to the mall and other shopping locations off of 106th South. This causes quite the backup for anyone trying to get further towards the mountains. Luckily, this time I was able to get around the traffic without much delay.
Yield Fail
While driving today, a car coming onto the freeway opposite me decided to try and merge with my lane. The yield sign was on his side (only one lane merged from there, whereas two merged from my side). Had he accelerated a bit faster, he would’ve been fine, but as it was he ended up having to slam on his brakes just before hitting me.
Red Light Dance
As I approached the entrance to the freeway, the light turned red. There was a car about to turn into the same entrance I was going to, so I waited for him. A lane over behind me, a car decided to gun it through the light, and nearly collided with the car. The car’s avoidance maneuver is most visible if you make the video larger (it looks like a very slight move otherwise).
Semi Wreck
On the rather infamous I-215/I-15 southbound connection, a semi loaded with quite a few giant steel beams hit a Utah DOT truck. It’s not the most exciting clip in the world, but if you pause it, you can get a decent view of what happened.
For more information, the wreck also earned an article on KSL.
