Cell Phone Driving
While driving home today, I noticed that the car in front of my was drifting from side to side in their lane. As I got closer, the drifting intensified, and upon passing the car, I noticed that the girl driving was glancing down frequently at her cell phone… Hoorah for cell phone driving…
Excellent Merge
Yet another brilliant move while merging from I-215 to I-15! An SUV was rather impatient to get over, having driven behind some slow cars for the past few minutes. He hopped over two lanes, and then when the drivers there proved no better, started merging again to the middle lane. The cars there began slowing down just as he did that, and so he hastily abandoned his attempt.
Paint Crew
While driving to work this morning, I passed a series of trucks painting new lines on the road. I’d never seen them doing the freeway before, and found it rather interesting.
Draper Rain
There have been several recent rainstorms recently in Utah. I happened to be driving through a rather intense part of one today. Getting off the freeway, the surface appeared totally smooth aside from the rain impacts, as there was a layer of water on the surface.
At the second stop light, it is raining hard enough that there is an inch or so of water flowing around the cars, and the cars leave wakes when traveling through the intersection. There are a few bumps and dips in the road which cause large splashes.
Yet Another Close Call
While driving home today, there was yet another close call at the I-215/I-15 interchange. There were a series of cars in front of me. They were following the usual behavior pattern for the area – try to go as fast as possible, pass as many cars as possible, and merge at the very last second. This time it happened with two cars in a row, and the second car nearly caused a collision when he tried to drift over into the already occupied space.
Too Fast to Stop
While driving on 11400 S, there was a truck next to me pulling a trailer. We got to a stoplight that had turned yellow, and he decided to gun his motor and run through it. Needless to say, it was very orange by the time he got through it. After the stoplight, i got to the next intersection, and he was stuck behind a row of cars at the next light.
I breezed right past him in a mostly free lane.
And yes, the tailgate on his trailer was down and scraping the road as he drove.
Porsche Passing
While driving home from work today, I again almost got run into on the I-215 to I-15 connection. This time I was behind a truck. He’d slowed down, so I did as well. I was well past the point where the three lanes merge down to two, and there were perhaps 5ft remaining off my left side to the approaching yellow line.
As I was going, I saw a red thing approaching with great speed behind me in my rearview mirror. It turned out to be a Porsche who decided that he wanted to get around me.
He whizzed by with one tire on each side of the orange line, and would’ve run off the edge of the freeway had I not slowed suddenly for him. After getting to I-15, he took off towards the left lanes and was shortly gone from sight, though I was going a bit over the speed limit myself.
A very intelligent move…
Exit Fun
When exiting at the I-15 11400S exit, this rather strange dance took place. The white truck in front of me engaged in a tenuous faceoff with the red car to his left. The red car appeared to be moving over (according to his signal) but never actually moved. Running out of space, the white truck slowed way down, and then was finally able to get over just before the his lane became an exit.
Shortly thereafter, a blue truck realized that he needed to get off at that exit and sped through the narrow gap between them; narrowly making the exit.
As an additional note, the cloud along the top of the frame is smoke from the fire out in Tooele.
Another Close One
For the second time in less than a week, a car almost drove off the merging where the I-215 to I-15 interchange goes from 3 lanes to 2. This one wanted to pass a semi quite badly and was either not paying attention to the merging, or just didn’t go fast enough. In any case, he was forced to slam on his brakes and narrowly avoided going into the median.
The best part – right after getting to I-15, he hopped across all lanes of traffic to get into the far left lane.
