Almost Off the Road
The interchange from I-215 to I-15 has recently been modified to extend the amount of room that there are 3 lanes available. Unfortunately, the interchange still goes down to two lanes right before merging with I-15. This 3-to-2 lane merging has been problematic, and many cars in the left lane tend to wait until the very last minute to merge over once the left lane ends.
I was driving in the middle lane. The guy next to me decided that he was going to wait until the last possible minute to move over, and almost ran himself off of the road. When he finally cut over, it was without signal and he almost clipped the front of my car.
You can see the lines end between the middle and left lanes, and then he continues speeding up on my left side. It doesn’t look as close from the dashcam in the middle of my windshield, but it was a close thing.
Dump Truck
While driving down a particularly steep hill in Draper, a dump truck decided to pull out in front of me and then proceed down the remainder of the hill at 10 mph.
Highway Patrol Armored Car
While getting my car serviced today at the hillside tire just off of the 10600 S exit, I saw this armored car. Hillside seems to service quite a few various police agency vehicles (I’ve seen several police departments, as well as highway patrol cars before), but I’ve never seem something like this there (or at all in Utah). It appears to be a heavily customized old Bronco or Suburban.
Impatient Car Shuffle
While driving in the auto mall area off of 10600 South in Sandy, one of the employees ferrying cars from one lot to another decided it would be a good idea to turn right in front of me, meander down the road like he wasn’t sure where to go, and then dart across traffic again to his destination lot.
Missing Lines
While driving to work this morning, the lane lines suddenly disappeared from one side of the lane I was in. It was highly unusual, and remained missing for the next mile or two. On the way home, driving the opposite way, there were also lines similarly missing. Thankfully the cement panel lines were basically where the paint lines normally would be, so it wasn’t as big of a safety risk as it could’ve been. Still, it was rather unusual.
Undercover Cop
Shortly after my last video, I noticed that the car I was overtaking was an undercover cop car. If you look closely at the gold car on the right, you’ll see two small black antenna on the back trunk. When I passed him, I could see his uniform (though that isn’t in the dashcam video). Quite a convincing looking undercover car.
Pick a Lane
Today was actually quite exciting as far as videos go; especially for a Utah holiday. I had been driving for several minutes on I-215 while returning from work, and was thinking that I probably wouldn’t have any videos from today. To my surprise, I got two in a matter of minutes!
A few minutes after thinking the above, while driving westbound on I-215, I was overtaken by a nice BMW. The semi next to me moved over, and then the BMW came flying through the gap. It was going probably 85. As I watched him speed off, he started drifting into the “exit-only” lane to get on I-15 sb. Then, as a semi moved over in front of him, he abruptly reversed course back into the second lane. He drove off without incident, but it could’ve been messy if there were more cars on the road.
Sneaky Cop
I was driving home from work today and saw this UHP car sitting in the median on I-15 around 10600S. Good luck spotting him! Exciting? No, but it could prove useful if you drive around there often.
