Yield Fail
While driving today, a car coming onto the freeway opposite me decided to try and merge with my lane. The yield sign was on his side (only one lane merged from there, whereas two merged from my side). Had he accelerated a bit faster, he would’ve been fine, but as it was he ended up having to slam on his brakes just before hitting me.
Red Light Dance
As I approached the entrance to the freeway, the light turned red. There was a car about to turn into the same entrance I was going to, so I waited for him. A lane over behind me, a car decided to gun it through the light, and nearly collided with the car. The car’s avoidance maneuver is most visible if you make the video larger (it looks like a very slight move otherwise).
Semi Wreck
On the rather infamous I-215/I-15 southbound connection, a semi loaded with quite a few giant steel beams hit a Utah DOT truck. It’s not the most exciting clip in the world, but if you pause it, you can get a decent view of what happened.
For more information, the wreck also earned an article on KSL.
BMW Race
While driving south on I-215 today, I glanced in my rear-view mirror and noticed a pair of cars coming quickly down the road behind me. I wasn’t driving too slowly (as you can tell from the video, I was passing traffic relatively quickly), but they both flew by me.
Up ahead there was a car driving slowly in the fast lane, and they both had to brake hard in order to avoid rear-ending him. They both ended up going around him on the right side, then continuing their race of sorts.
Merging Trouble
It’s been a while since I’ve posted anything about the I-215/I-15 interchange. It’s rather terribly designed, and that has given me a good deal of stuff to post here.
For today’s video, I was driving right at the point where three lanes merge to become two lanes. The left lane disappears into the center lane, but for some reason, people just keep driving in the left lane almost off the side of the freeway.
A lady in a dark SUV came speeding up on the left side. She tried to pass “just one more” car (the one in front of me), but unfortunately didn’t give herself enough time to do so. She ended up slamming on her brakes after it became evident that she’d shortly end up in the median, dropped back, and scooted over in front of me. Had I decided to press the issue, she’d have been clean out of options.
Crazy Repair Workers
While driving this morning, I passed a pair of construction workers doing an incredibly dangerous job of patching the road in darkness, while it was in full use (though the traffic was light due to the hour).
Snow Driving Fun
This morning it was just cold and cloudy, but this afternoon it started snowing. This is a montage of driving through that snow for a good 20 miles or so.
Smart Turning
After waiting at a stoplight near the Home Depot on 114th, two cars nearly collided when a guy turned left just as we started moving forward.
Snowy Roads
Due to it snowing quite hard all day, even in the afternoon, the roads were still coated with a good quantity of slush. At least one truck I was near decided to gun it through a yellow light.
