Debris
Driving through Floodwaters
There was a sudden cloudburst this afternoon. The Sandy storm drains were overwhelmed and lower areas saw water flooding out of the storm drains. This can be seen in the video, as can two large pools that covered 13th East. On the second one there was a stalled car. One of the cars was unable to drive through the pool and apparently flooded.
Smoky Debris
Nearly in the same place as yesterday I noticed a sudden cloud of smoke ahead of me. I slowed down and noticed that there was a bunch of broken things on the ground (not the tire I thought).
Construction Barrel Dodge
There is currently construction ongoing for eastbound I-215 near the I-15 interchange. Today someone apparently had trouble avoiding the barrels, and several of them were hit – one of them even going into the traffic lanes.
Blown Tire
While driving today, a truck several hundred yards away from me had a blowout. It made a loud bang that was audible back in my car, along with a cloud of dust. After a few more moments, the outer layer of the tire came off. He then moved over to the right lane, and apparently got off at the 106th S exit.
Golf Ball vs Windshield
While driving along I-215 near the Murray Parkway golf course, a yellow golf ball was bouncing along the freeway. Unfortunately it soon made contact with my windshield. It left a large crack around the impact mark; multiple concentric rings about the diameter of a basketball.
Pictures are below the break.
Wreck on 106th
Driving up 106th S by the Trax line, I came upon the scene of a recent accident. Cars involved were only just barely pulling off to the side of the road, and sirens were sounding in the distance (there is a fire station about a half mile away on 7th E).
Apparently, the black truck with a trailer had been turning left and been hit head-on by a black car (visible through the fence in the yard of the corner house around 0:23).
The whole front end of the black car was crumpled in, and apparently the impact had sent it flying through the chain-link fence into the front yard of the house. On the truck, its front driver-side axle was crushed in, with the tire almost horizontal.
Dodging Debris
While driving on I-215 today near the California Ave exit, there was a large metal bracket/brace/implement sitting in the road. We managed to avoid it, but my dashcam got a good look at it.
